The Lady Chapel – Family Lines

The Lady Chapel, which is to the left of the main chancel, is thought to date from around 1420- 1430. It is believed that there is a vault under it in which a number of the Sharrington/Talbot family were buried. The chapel is also known as the Talbot Chapel for that reason. To help understand the history of the chapel, and the people who were buried there or who have memorials in the church from that family we have created a family tree below. Not all of them are buried at Lacock but a number were. It shows the family line from William Sharrington, who arguably has the most notable memorial in the whole church, down through the Fox Talbot family to Matilda Talbot who although not buried in the church is remembered here. It was also her who gave Lacock Abbey over to the National Trust.

In the tree we have highlighted name with links to other pages on the website where you can discover more of their story or a mention of them in another’s biography.
